I'm hoping to play $5/$10 7-Card Stud on my next trip to Foxwoods. A few people have told me that game is actually pretty easy to beat, even for the beginning Stud player. I had avoided Stud at Foxwoods because I don't like spread limit games much, and it jumps right from $1-$5 to $5/$10, which is a rather big leap. However, I think I'm ready to brave the $5/$10 after some online practice.

I'm barely a winning player yet at online Stud, although I am getting better. My big leak is that I overvalue big pairs (perhaps over-influence from my HE experience). Someone told me once that in extremely loose Stud games, you more or less need the best hand and the best draw, which I am starting to believe.

It's a lot of fun though, to again play the game I started with back in early college at the penny-ante, $.05 bring-in level. I was a winning player then, but winning $10 to $20 a week at those limits simply meant no one had any clue what they were doing and folding once in a while gave an edge.

I know a lot of people want to focus on one specific game, played with one specific betting structure, but I really want to be a poker generalist. So, I'll see how it goes. I'll post any interesting Stud things if I encounter some online or at Foxwoods.

BTW, I'm going to do some phone posts from Foxwoods. A few people have asked me to do it, and I am not sure if it'll come out too well from the "acceptable to use your mobile phone" area of the poker room. But, I can transcribe them when I get back. Hopefully, I won't tell too many bad beat stories.

I sit in that game when I am waiting for a hold em table. It is better to sit at a stud game and wait because there are no blinds, and you can just leave any time you want. If you know basic stud strategy you should be able to beat the 5/10 game there without much of a problem.

The other nice thing about the stud game is that the people don't bitch as much as at the hold em game, so it is a nice way to just relax and play before you jump into the whiny bitch-fests that are every hold em game at Foxwoods.
