Thank you for posting the rules about the right to ask to see a hand that was mucked in a showdown (2/4/05). I had my first experience with this rule this evening playing $4-8 Limit Hold'Em. I had just sat down at a new table. The second hand in I was dealt QQ, I raised pre-flop and caught a set on the flop. There was a lot betting and raising and I was heads-up with one other player. The board straightened out with 10-Q-4-J-K by the river. The river was checked down and my opponent showed A-J for nut flush. I mucked my hand and a player who had folded pre-flop asked the dealer to see my hand. The dealer turned over my Queens for the table to see.
I became quite angry at the situation and I asked for an explanation. The reply was "this player asked to see your cards". "I mucked and I did not show anyone", I replied. This was my introduction to this strange and IMO bad rule. I swore from that moment forward that I will always muck my cards well into the muck.
Thank you for your post. It has helped me understand the rule and make sure that I won't get burned in the future. In hindsight, it did not cost me any money and I even used the tight image that was revealed to bluff a nice pot.
