I play all the limits online, up to $2/$4 NL and $10/$20 limit. When I have time and the focus to multi-table, I play micro limits (usually $.25/$.50 or $.5/$1 blind NL or somewhere around there), and four or five tables at a time. This is highly profitable because you can play straight-up and usually trap people pretty easily.
When I want to play games that actually require serious concentration, I never play more than two tables, usually of $1/$2 or $2/$4 blind NL. In those cases, you really do need to focus and get reads on people because they players aren't pathetic, but still pretty fishy if you keep an eye on them and know what to do.
The most important thing to remember about online poker is that the competition is tougher than live play for the limits you are playing. The skill at $1/$2 games online is about the same as $2/$5 live games. So, be careful and start smaller than you think you need to.
One of the most important things you need to avoid in poker is stakes ego. Don't be afraid to play much smaller if the EV is good (which can happen in spades in multi-table situations). You are way better than your opponents when the money doesn't scare you in the least because you usually play much higher.
Finally, I should note that Full Tilt's new Deep Stack tables are nice. I multi-table the $.15/$.30, $60 max tables very profitably because it's very easy to manipulate the pot size with the large stacks, since no one ever folds two pair at those limits.
