Re card-catching contests: When even a 2-tabler has to be finished in an evening, the blinds are going to have to rise pretty fast. I think the approach outlined by Snyder - accept it's a fast tourney from hand 1 and look to start accumulating quickly - is probably correct. That way you can increase the likelihood that you're the big stack in later confrontations and have a good chance to survive the inevitable beat. Easier said (for me at least) than done, though.
