Caps are usually used in very big games (the famous Bellagio Bobby's Room game, for example, plays with a $100,000 cap when they are playing a PL/NL variant). It is rarely seen in small games. We tried it in our home game because there are some newbies there who didn't want to play .5/1 blinds with $150 buy-in (they wanted .1/.25 with a $50 buy-in), so we offered our game with a $100 cap. It didn't help much, but perhaps the cap should have been lower, maybe $80 or something.
