Erick Lindgren (to Daniel Negreanu):
I had twice as many outs as Gus.
John Juanda interjects:
Nice needle, there.
Erick mis-read Daniel for a bluff on the turn when Daniel had top pair. Erick hit a set on the river, and refers back to Gus' hand when Daniel had Gus in a set-over-set situation and Gus made quads.
Daniel continues to play very poorly this season. He had a tough night. He's right that he's had a cooler or two, but he's mostly been paying off in spots he doesn't have to.
He's been playing like a donkey

2) Let me stop and list off all the hands that beat me. Wow, pretty long list of reasonable hands.
3) But man, way back on the flop, I really was sure that I was ahead in the hand.
4) What is it to me? Some fairly large amount of money? Okay, let me count it out.
5) Well, if I lose this, then it was bad luck. Okay, I call.
6) Damn, how many times will I lose?

Date: 2006-08-29 19:06 (UTC)Well put indeed! I have been thinking a lot about that check-raise on the river and laying down to Gus and I'm almost convinced, although not quite. I just can't stop thinking about 58 and 56 being really reasonable hands Daniel can put Gus on in that spot. I think Gus would check-raise all-in with those holdings, so Daniel is usually correct in calling. I've got a post coming about this hand, actually.
But, that is but one hand. So many others, Daniel has done exactly as you describe. He's really having a bad night. If he was playing optimally, he would quit instead. The previews for next week seem to indicate, though, that we're going to see Daniel keep dumping.
