The only reason I would fold AKo in this spot would be if it is a really tough/TAGgy game - table feel is really key in this type of situation in my mind.
Taking this particular situation in context (normal to passive, easy-to-beat limit game but with some rocks and some inexperienced players), folding is def -EV, unless a read tells you u're against AA. Your chances of dominating an AQ-A8 and playing a 60/40 with a 88 - QQ, given the additional callers ('dead' money), is a situation you want to exploit in LHE (remember, small edges). As roryk points out, you will check-call a ragged flop - this is where game selection comes into play, who are you up against that has position on you, will they raise the flop with an AQ unimproved or TP/shit kicker, forcing you to dump on the flop. If this is the case, a fold pre-flop could be argued for. In this typical game, from my experiences, you generally can see a turn for one bet in a three-bet or capped pot.
I would simply call the three-bet out of position here, encouraging callers, and calling a cap if it came back around - leading if I hit on a ragged A-hi flop or atttempting to check-raise on a suited or straightening board. If i miss, check-call one bet or check-fold, depending.
