Of course, I generally agree that you should tune raises (particularly
preflop) in NL to yield the number of callers your want given your
holding. However, the factor of "percentage of stack-size committed"
is of serious concern as well. I feel you can easily hit a tough spot
with AK, because it's really dangerous to have too much of your stack
committed with AK preflop. My gut says that you don't really want
more than 5% of your stack committed, but maybe 10% (which is $30 in
your example) wouldn't be so terrible.
I generally only feel comfortable having 10% of my stack in preflop
with 77 or better (assuming I am even-stacked with or covered by other
players in the pot). But that's usually because implied odds
of I'm getting when I flop a set (with 77-JJ) or an overpair (with
QQ-AA). With AK, I'm looking to flop top pair at best (odds of
flopping two pair or better are slim), and I tend toward the rule of
thumb that says you don't want to be deep into a pot holding only top
pair. I guess it comes down to "how much is 'deep' into a pot
preflop?".
stack size?
