The food thing will work itself out, so don't worry about that - I think i filled myself up too much on twix to eat real food.
I wouldn't object to a $5 or even $10 house food fee - I've played in home games like that before - sometimes people just don't think when they're leaving to chip in for food or they go broke and are heading for the door as soon as possible. a noon-6pm is kinda iffy for food anyway.
