I agree that folks have unrealistic expectations of how quickly one can actually make money as a casual/non-professional player. Although for limit, this breakdown (http://cardsspeak.servebeer.com/archives/the_phoenix_riddle_hath_more_wit_by_us.html) by HDouble showed that even most professional "winners" in his database were making between 0-2 BB/100 hands. Unless one is properly bankrolled, there just isn't enough money in it to withstand the variance that is going to come over time. (Which can be particularly frustrating for a beginner/intermediate player such as myself -- a limit like $3/6 online seems "small" in many ways -- but there's absolutely no legitimate reason to try moving up until I have built the bankroll and am able to beat the lower limit for more than the 2 BB/100 hands pace at which I am currently playing it.)
