You're probably certainly doing something right — the classic
things that 90% of poker players are basically unable to master. Tight
aggressive play, learning how to fold and not pay off when it is obvious
you are beat, that sort of thing. In low limit games, you get an enormous
edge simply with strong starting hand selection. I built my bankroll
(twice!) playing these sorts of low limit games. Once you get to middle
limits, you need a bit more than the basics to win. But, the path to high
success is paved by small successes, so don't discount your achievements
so far.
