Yes, The variance can be much higher than limit if the players are very loose.

I did play the 6/12 game at the Borgata when I was there, and it was okay but nothing spectacular.

Back when I played that game, it was well before the NL HE fad, so people tended to choose limit and the only non-limit game going at Borgata was the PL mixed game and a PLO game. How times have changed.

I imagine staying in a room would make things easier

Indeed, and I don't really want to stay at any of the hotels other than Borgata, because it's so much nicer than the others. Man, I miss those room rates.
